Respected Sir

I'm a trainee, working for a steel plant by the name Visakhapatnam Steel Plant in the raw materials handling plant. Sir i had a doubt regarding pipe conveyors. I saw many pictures or pipe conveying systems where in the conveyor belt gets folded to form a profile of a pipe, with the help of idlers, to carry material over long distances, bends as well as inclined surfaces to avoid spillage of material and to minimize the number of junctions which would have been present otherwise. Sir i wanted to know why it is necessary to have a pipe profile in the return side as well. As no material is transported in the return side why would the design have a pipe profile during return?

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanking you.

Yours Sincerely

Pipe Configuration For Return Side Belt??

Posted on 26. Dec. 2011 - 06:18

Some reasons to configure return belt into a pipe shape including:

1. Control contaminants to inside of return pipe until at loading station - wind action otherwise blows product into environment

2. Allow tight bending radii that may not be achievable with a trough configuration

3. Keep return side, inside product surface, from becoming contaminated with rainfal

4. Carry another product within return pipe

5. Pipe shape may provide better belt tracking in windy conditions.
