Pipe Belt to Convey Digested Sludge

Posted in: , on 13. Aug. 2009 - 07:37

We are assessing the use of pipe belt conveyors to transport digested sludge from a wastewater treatment plant to the landfill site.

We need to move the sludge downhill over steep terrain (slope >30 degrees for some sections) including horizontal curves.

I would be grateful if you could share references of pipe belt conveyors used for the transport of digested & dewatered sludge (35% dryness).

Thanks in advance for your insight

Hi,

That is an unusual application for pipe conveyors. Try talking to pipe conveyor Vendors in the first instance. Their technical department will be glad to hear from you. This type of application requires some good engineering detective work.

Good luck - john.p

Dear Sir

I have been involved in the design and supply of many pipe conveyors including one for handling sludge from waste water treatment plant to landfill.

We have 15 deg angle and curves but 30 degs is dificult but depends on water content.

However in our case it worked and would have been impossible with conventional conveyor system.

If you want to know more please contact me.

Dear Sirs

I have personally been responsible for installing pipe conveyor for handling dewatered sludge, in this case it was still very wet, it would have been big problem with conventional conveyor.

The PC was dia 150mm length 183m and lift 22 m the inline up was 13 deg and was not a problem.

Regarding downhill it is not impossible but care should be taken. If the material is relatively dry or a little sticky then it can transport downhill at 30 deg with contolled stopping, the main problem is emergency stop and in some areas modification to idler panel and numbers should be made.

First angle of repose of actual material should be determined.

Regards
