Triple Washing of Silica Sand

Posted in: , on 14. Aug. 2009 - 17:34

I would like to know how is the best way of achieving this. The material needs to be extremely clean. Ready made supply of fresh water is not a problem but im struggling to figure out how to operate this system.

Wash once run through plant and of discharge belt, and repeat this three times the only solution??

Again any help would be great?

Greetings and salutations Redtrev,

The simples tand lowest cost solution for you to examine is to use a water well

drilling mud cleaner unit such as a mud puppy drilling mud cleaner, nearly dry product

that can be carried to a drying shed with drainage in the floor or simply use perforated

drainage tubing to push warm air through the sand to dry it.

Option two is a small trailered drilling mud cleaner from my friend wayne nash in

the state of Georgia USA.

The unit my friend Wayne Nash builds and offers is self contained as well with a gas engine driven pump,

desilting cones and screens in one complete unit. and entirely on a small 2 axle trailer that is towable with a land rover etc.

The idea behind the small mud cleaners is it eliminates the need for deep drilling mud pits which require a lot of water.

If you would like I can ask wayne to contact you of desired and it will cost much less.

The nice thing about a portable unit is it would eliminate a dedicated screener to filter off the sand and the desilting cones

will remove the clay for you and strip the silica sand of any rock and trash etc.

A small portable tank from modutank from long island city new york USA would be a big help as it would not cost a lot of money

and can handle tailings and abrasives, We had three modutanks for water, diesel fuel and hydraulic oils in the mine where I

worked previously and they are still in use. I can personally attest to th equality of the tanks mr. margolis builds.

Using waynes the mud cleaner, a skid loader or small loader like an L70 front end loader from Volvo and the modutank would

cost much less money in set up as the loader can be rented for a day, week, or month etc

A hoop shed with concrete blocks holding back the sand could be used to keep the sand dry; installing perforated drainage tile

on the floor of the shed and used as an air conduit from a solar collector painted black using clear plastic sheets covering a number

of plywood boxes made with dimensional lumber painted black using 2 by 4 lumber to create narrow passages as air conduits for the

air to pass through 4 or more times absorbing heat prior to its entering the tubing and traveling to the sand pile.

The air is pushed with a squirrel cage furnace fan and it is used to push the heat the incoming airthrough the solar to help dry the sand quickly.

a closed loop of air tubing could be assembled to reheat the air passing though the pile if desired using solid tubing to return the air back to the collector.

I can forward you a drawing to show how easy it would be to buld inexpensively.

Alternatively a long roll of solid drainage pipe exposed to the sun could be used to absorb heat and push it to a pile delvering the hot air to dry it from underneath the pile with

the perforated tubing and a squirrel cage fan if room is available.

Trev,

If you need to wash the Silica sand to remove the contaminants smaller than 0,075mm or 200mesh then maybe we can help you. Usually in Silica sand washing there is the need to remove the fines/clays and also produce certain grain sizes for use in glass sand or foundry sand.

we have installed many such plants for this and in some cases the silica sand contained 20 - 30% of dirty material that needed to be reduced to less than 3% for example. we can do this no problem and very efficiently. It is not wise to try and wash the sand 3 times through a typical plant to achieve this as the costs would not make it viable. We can design the plant to clean the sand correctly in one pass.

if this is what you are interested in then you can email me eheron@cdeglobal.com

what is your location?
