Forces on Impact Plate

Posted in: , on 17. Mar. 2009 - 10:09

Hi All.

I want to find the forces on an impact plate. I know the change in velocity of the ore, and the mass flow rate. I am unsure of the impact time (if needed) or if i can simply use

F = mass flow x change in vel.

Cheers

Dear Kristan,

The formula is F= m * dv/dt

or differently noted:

F = m/dt * dv (Mass flow rate * change in velocity)

The dynamic factor on an Impact = 2

This dynamic factor becomes active when there is a change in mass flow rate, due to the response of the structure

Also sudden mass flow rate changes, relative to the average calculated values, must be considered in calculating the maximum possible impact stresses in a structure.

The velocity must be taken at the place of impact. (Falling height will increase the velocity)

cheers

if no change in mass flow rate the dynamic factor is 1?........tq

Dear mall,

Your conclusion is correct
