Usage of Used Belts

Posted in: , on 15. Feb. 2014 - 23:15

Dear Experts,

Is it true that old belts can be recycled for manufacturing new belts ? Is it possible to recycle any carcass belts ( fabric, steel cord, aramid ) or any shaped belts ( flat, cleat & side walled or chevron ) ?

Though it is not advised, very low quantity of fabric belts are used by maintenance engineers to use them at skirt boards or at scrappers. Are there any better ways or creative methods to use them again, without making ill effects on environment ?

Thanks & Regards,

Recycling One Up (At Least)

Dear Mr. Ganesh,

of course there's recycling and re-manufacturing technologies around, for conveyor belts. I know it for flat belts, but however not for shaped belts.

When doing a > recycling of conveyorbelts < search you may find some partners, i feel that some Australian enterprises are quite advanced on that topic. That is not so far away from you, i gather?

When using old belting for skirts, guides, coverings it's necessary to firmly clamp the piece, and check sufficiently often for any damage developing. However, this use must be sensibly checked against requirements and environment of use. I never witnessed use as main scraping element, rather a use at secondary scraping equipment like V-plows or similar. But this being explicitely not steel cord belt pieces.
