Palmetto Industries International Opens Technology Center in Chennai, India

One-of-a-kind Center Helps Companies Optimize FIBC Bag Usage and Reduce Overall Packaging Costs

Augusta, Ga. March 20, 2006 -- Palmetto Industries International, Inc. has recently opened a state-of-the-art technology center in Chennai, India. The dedicated 20,000-square-foot facility is staffed by veteran textile, polymer, chemical and mechanical engineers experienced in all stages of FIBC production.

“Over the past 15 years, the packaging industry has been off-shored, seen the introduction of high tech manufacturing equipment, and witnessed the birth of many new fabric manufacturers,” says CEO Shankar Balan. “Moreover, many companies have grown through acquisitions and mergers, leaving them with fragmented packaging specifications. In response to market needs, we have created a center where end users can have their bags reviewed against specifications and adjusted accordingly to optimize usage. The key word here is optimization.”

The center is directed by Asok Kumar, who holds a master’s degree in Plastics Processing and Technology. During his 23 year career in the packaging industry, Mr. Kumar has started up, overseen and managed every aspect of FIBC manufacture -- from production to quality to project planning to training. He also travels extensively, researching technology, machinery and best practices within the industry.

The center’s aim will:

• Evaluate your current bags against their specifications, including types C and D bags

• Provide a detailed analysis on all deviations and how they affect you and your customers

• Offer suggestions to optimize your specifications and minimize cost

• Provide comparison pricing on the original and recommended specifications

• Create a project folder of all new specifications to include CAD drawings in both metric and U.S. measurements

• Speed your products to market

All testing is performed in a fully equipped laboratory that meets or exceeds the requirements for DOT-approved testing laboratories in the United States. “While DOT labs can test your products to a certain point, the staff at our facility literally deconstructs each bag, then tests each factor to identify ways in which we can optimize usage to your particular application,” says Mr. Balan.

Testing parameters include:

• Denier

• Fabric weight (GSM)

• Weight of yarn (GPD)

• Tensile strength of yarn and fabric

• UV

• SWL test: drop, jerk and others
