Shiploader to Load Copper Concentrate

Posted in: , on 21. Feb. 2012 - 16:15

Hi all,

I'm opening this thread to discuss which is the best shiploader to load cooper concentrate.

I want to know what is your opinion about use the following shiploaders:

  • Travelling shiploader

    Radial shiploader

    Dual Linear shiploader

    Fixed shiploader

I think in the travelling shiploader you can't cover the main belt conveyor, because the shiploader move through the belt, and this may be a very important limitation.

I've seen Radial and Fixed shiploader in Chile and they work fine, but I haven't seen Travelling shiploader to load cooper concentrate.

Besides the type of ship loaders that you have listed there is the possibility of a high angle conveyor ship loader such as the system that we supplied to the Port of Adelaide in Australia.

Any of the the shiploader types listed will be suitable for copper concentrate. I believe that your question may be which is best for for the particulars of my application. Once you can list those particulars you can decide which system is best for you.

Greetings,

Andres,

The port industry in Chile is very special case of study, all cooper concentrates ports starts operations with finger piers or "duques de alba" to minimize the cost of the port construction and to start very soon to load ships. We define the preliminary engineering for many projects in Chile, most of them reject the linear shiploader becuase the cost of the of shore jobs to built up continuous berth.

Regarding the best apparatus, all depends the kind of ships you will load, as example if you have to load out ships about 80,000DWT, LOA 300mts and 7 hatches, the smartest solution is to use two hand of loading simultaneous to avoid shifting every time the ship captain request to fill up the next cargo hold to compensate the bulk cargo ship. There are many designs of loaders available in the market, every business needs different kind of technology to became more rentability. As you know every minute the ship is berthed is costing money for some body then the efficiency of the technology used is a key.

In my opinion most of the terminals in the north of Chile using static loaders are outmoded and should be renewed but the tradition is the standard in the mining industry, all managers look what the company did before and repeat the model, That is why you see always same kind of loaders in north of Chile, if you have a look to punta arenas (coal project mina invierno) they are starting a new project using the newest technology available for shiploaders.

Thanks.

Estimado Marcelo,

Probablemente he escuchado tu nombre, yo trabajo en PRDW-AV junto a Eric.

Saludos!

Andres, here is only allow the use of english language for forum communications, any way the travelling loader is fully used in all ports with continuous berth available, in there the shiftnig of the ship is nule and the speed for trensfering the position of the loader is faster than even radial loader, the problem is allways the same, from economically point of view, 200 meters of berth construction is always expensive than 3 or 4 piling platforms.

Most of the linear loaders I know are installed in quiet bays or fluent rivers in were the berth is close to the land, In Callao Peru,in brazil , USA y Argentina there are linear shiploaders all of them are working since long time ago without any problems, since 2000 I was trying to install linear loaders in the projects but the proposal is rejected on preliminary engineering because cost of the civil works involved in berth cost.

Many thanks.
