Dear Mister/Miss,

My name is Jeroen Staneke and I am busy with my diploma thesis for the Technical University in Delft, Holland. The title of my thesis is: Benchmark analysis of import bulk terminals.

My question is:

There are a lot of different stackers and reclaimers, but when can you best use one type and when another

I will be very pleased if you are able to help me.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards

Jeroen Staneke

Advantages Of Stacker & Reclaimer

Dear Jeroen,

Mainly two types of stacker are in use in this feild. One is twin boom stacker & other is slewing stacker.Slewing stacker is costly than your twin boom stacker.Where the storage yard having lot of yard machine, use slewing stacker to avoid interfearence.

We have various types of reclaimer-Wheel on boom reclaimer, wheel on bridge reclaimer, Barrel relcimer, stake rake etc...each having particular application.

Where the blending is the prime criteria, we will go for barrel type, very stick material to recalim, we will use stake rake& so on....

Jeroen, you will get more information on this subject if you have the following book:

1. STACKING, BLENDING & RECLAIMING...

BY R. WHOLBIER

2. BEST OF STACKING, BLENDING & RECLAIMING...A BULK SOLID JOURNAL

Please go to the eLibrary and insert your search words.

The Delft University of Technology will have a complete collection of the journal "bulk solids handling" where many articles were published.

I suggest you first do some serious reading and literature study and then pose specific questions to the Forum members.

Dear Mr. Jeroen Staneke,

There are various methods of stacking and various types of stacking machines to suit the industrial requirements. Similarly there are different methods of reclaiming and there are different types of reclaiming machines to meet the industrial requirements. All these types of machines are used by the industry, which justifies the reasons for their existence. Each type of stacking and reclaiming have certain advantages and disadvantages. The advantages and disadvantages are often subjective / overlapping in nature and will rarely be in black and white (i.e. only bad and good is not there). All this information would constitute a big book and so the same cannot be narrated on forum.

As you are doing thesis on this subject, my suggestion is that you need to first acquaint with the prevailing technology and thereby you will be able to prepare better thesis otherwise it will become like a reinvention of the wheel. Please look for the literature and I am sure you will get it. You can also interact with the manufacturers of material handling machines in your area who will certainly have applicable literature and the discussion with them will be of great help to you.
