Moving Concentrate

Posted on 28. Aug. 2007 - 02:11

Hi AHMAD REZA MADINEH,

To empty a hopper - open the bottom gate. The "best way" depends on what you are trying to do

1 - dump the contents into a bulk tanker

2 - dump the contents into a bulker bag

3 - transfer the contents onto a load-out conveyor

4 - any other process

What can you tell us about molybdenum concentrate? It is a fine particulate product <400 um and 8 - 12% moisture.

5 - is fugitive dust a problem?

6 - is rat-holing and hanging up a problem?

7 - what can you tell us about its handling characteristics?

Please advise - Sgt John.Rz

Conncentrate Of Molybdenum

Posted on 28. Aug. 2007 - 06:21

Hi

Thank you for your attention.

1- It is to be loaded out onto an aeromechanical conveyor.

2- Fugitive dust can be transferred by a central dedusting system.

3- Yes, of course rat-holing and hanging up is a serious problem.

4- As a test we handled it via a screw conveyor and loaded out to a small hopper with an open outlet. The necessary inclination for lateral plate of small hopper, to load it out, should be about 70 degree.

Best regards,

A.M.

IMO 1.2 te/hr is a low rate so any hopper will need a feeder unit.

As there have been flow problems with the material it is necessary to have the material tested for it's flow properties. These can be used to establish a suitable hopper design either mass flow or core flow and then select a suitable feeder.

Alternatively, ignore the flow properties and use a mechanical discharger.

Aeromechanical

Thanks for the responses.

It sounds like the product is similar to Alumina concentrate. At Kwinana we reclaim it through a rotary valve onto a screw conveyor, and then use air-slides to transfer the product to our bulk vehicle loading facilities.

We used to use bulker bags, but now use bulk tanker vehicles to handle greater volumes.

I assume that the aero-mechanical is a similar process - a fluidised bed of product running down what are effectively launders. By blowing in compressed air under the porous membranes the powder can run like a liquid, because it is fine particulate.

We also use air-slides under flat bottom bins as a reclaim system

If I was assuming what an aero mechanical conveyor was it would be this ....

So what are we talking about???

HELLO AHMAD REZA MADINEH,

This sounds like an application for a piece of equipment called a Sword Nozzle. This nozzle is used with an air cannon which blasts compressed air via this isobaric sword and causes the material to fluidize assisting in the flow of the material. This sword differs from regular single point nozzles which are not always placed in the right position to hit the bridge in the exact position. Please see attached file.

Good Luck.
