Need Help for Small Screen Power Design

Hello! I ran across this site while trying to find information on an old two-deck, vibrating screen that I recently purchased. After reading a few posts under the screening & feeding forum it very quickly became clear that you guys are working on these questions at a much higher degree than I am with my cowboy engineering. However, my experience with forums like this one is people tend to be very helpful; so I apologize in advance that my question will present itself as fairly pedantic to most of you.

Recently, I purchased an older Kolman two-deck screen (2' x 4') that we intend to set up as part of a wetlands restoration project that we are doing on a private ranch in eastern Oregon. We are currently constructing a support stand and conveyor system. I contacted the folks at Masaba/Kolman, who were really helpful in sending me a parts list for the screen and recommending a slope/angle for the support stand (13 deg.).

They also indicated that the electric motor would have been around 3 hp but could not recommend a size of gasoline engine or clutch mechanism. Therefore, I was hopeful that someone on this site may have some ideas how would could power this screen with either a small gas engine or electricity from one of our existing generators and for a clutch mechanism.

Thanks in advance.

Shaun

A three horse power electric motor would require a much,

much bigger generator (220-240-480 volts three phase unit

in your case.

Now,

You can contact the folks at Hilliard Clutch in Horseheads, New York

and they will help you with this.

They have nice web site that you can visit as well.

I have a Hilliard clutch on a single cylinder sixteen horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine that

powers a 48 inch flailmower that is over 30 years old and still works very well.

The screener is going to rule your life as far as the speed needed to work.

once you know the speed that the elliptical screen is required to operate at

your halfway there.

A standard slip clutch will require you to run at 3,300 R.P.M. engine speed to engage

the slip clutch and then reduce the speed down through a belt drive to the driver side

of the screener to less than one sixth of the motor speed via the belt reduction.

The new Briggs and Stratton air cooled sixteen horsepower engines are V twins and have a good

track record of durability.

Hope I was of some help to you.

My cohort George Baker will be able to help you with this I am sure.

3hp Eolectric Motor....Or Go 5 Or 7 Or Whatever Is Handy, Won't…

more simple for that small motor to use line power from a genset to the electric motor.......simple.....start stop wiring and you and done.

or plan B....a small 3 or 4 cylinder duetz diesel or similar.

check out POWERSCREEN or mcCloskey websites .......they all run that way....

let us know, if this did not help.......questions are welcomed.

GEORGE BAKER...........hey Izaharis.......how's it going?
