NEW KINGFISHER PUBLICATION SHOWS POWER GENERATORS HOW TO IMPROVE PLANT LONGEVITY & IMPROVE MASS FLOW EFFICIENCY

Kingfisher Industrial is helping power generators to achieve improved service longevity from their existing plant & equipment, thus improving efficiency resulting in reduced operating costs. The company’s new industry specific publication high-lights the solutions and systems on offer and shows generators how they can reduce maintenance and improve productivity. It highlights the benefits of employing wear protection to new or existing power generating plant, providing users with up to 10- year or even 20- year life from the solutions offered.

The Power Generation brochure is the latest in a series of publications that Kingfisher is producing to highlight the benefits of wear protection across all process engineering sectors. It is the result of Kingfisher’s long and successful industry experience of providing wear protection solutions and full turnkey projects to many of the major power generation companies, including a recent flagship project for E.ON at Iron bridge power station in Shropshire.

Wear Protection in Power Generation

The new publication provides an easy- to- assimilate graphic of a typical coal power generation plant, breaking down the process to show key equipment used and outlining how wear protection can improve its life performance.

This is complemented by a description of the value added benefits of using wear protection, outlining how the process of coating or lining key plant and equipment, such as bunkers, hoppers, feeders, milling plant pipe work and chutes, with ceramics, metallics or polymers which can extend its life considerably. The benefits of providing such protection are evidenced by research by Kingfisher that shows users of its wear resistant lining systems benefit by a factor of 5 times their initial outlay, with many installations providing wear life of up to 20-years following appropriate wear treatment. Furthermore, many operators of coal fired power stations are adopting biomass resources as a fuel to help meet increasingly stringent targets for C02 emissions and extend the life of their stations. At present, biomass co-firing in modern coal power plants, with efficiencies up to 45%, is one of the most cost-effective methods of achieving the generating output required, whilst reducing its C02 emissions due to biomass being classed as a renewable energy source. Kingfisher’s experience within the industry allows them to adapt each protection system to individual applications.

“We have produced this new, free brochure to assist the Power Generation sector in the strategic cost saving benefits of wear protection of plant and equipment,” said Kingfisher MD, John Connolly. “Wear protection is still under-employed, generally, in the Power Generation sector and is costing the industry millions of pounds annually in unnecessary maintenance costs and lost production time.”

About Kingfisher Industrial

Kingfisher Industrial provides wear solutions for process plant used to convey, process or store bulk solid materials, in either dry or hydraulic states. Such plant often suffers premature wear due to handling large quantities of materials at velocity in a constant operational cycle. With its range of ceramic, metallic and polymer protection systems, Kingfisher can overcome wear problems; engineering suitable protection systems that can add many years’ of life to a plant, and in some cases outlast the design life of a process completely. These solutions cater for the operating criteria, budget and life cycle of either new equipment - particularly when initially installed - or existing equipment, which can be retrofitted with a protection system to add to its current asset value.
