Saint Petersburg Academy awards honorary doctorate

Werner Koch receives high distinction

Maschinentechnik GmbH, was awarded an honorary doctorate in June from the Academy of Education, Saint Petersburg. Koch received the award of Doctor of Science from Professor Valery Bogdanov, vice president of the Academy, in recognition of his services in the field of organisation of production.

The honorary doctorate is awarded in further appreciation of the exemplary cooperation between Professor Koch’s company and the renowned Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University. Professor Koch, a pioneer in the field of peripheral technology for the plastics industry, established early links with Russia. As early as the mid 1990s he cultivated an active exchange of knowledge with the educational institution. The entrepreneur supports Russian students in the specialist area of plastics technology by giving guest talks and providing technical apparatus for experimental work. “Over the many years of our association, the connections with Russia’s biggest university have been very extensive and amicable,” Koch remarks.

As in previous years, this year too Professor Koch is offering a number of Saint Petersburg students the opportunity of a ten-day placement in Germany. A total of seven students pursuing a course in machine construction for plastics technology have taken up his invitation and are currently following a comprehensive programme involving training courses, factory visits to companies in the plastics industry, as well as specialist discussions with experts. “We are pleased to support the students and transfer some of our expertise,” explains Professor Koch, who regards his commitment as an important investment in the future. According to Professor Bogdanov, only those students who acquit themselves best are selected for the placement in Ispringen.

In recognition of his extraordinary services, in April 2006 Koch was awarded an honorary professorship at the Saint Petersburg State Polytechnic University. Moreover, an exhibition of his life’s work in the university’s Technology Museum represents further recognition of Werner Koch’s achievements – up to now the only foreigner to receive such an accolade.

For more than 30 years the Koch-Technik name has been synonymous with innovation, precision, modular flexibility and economy for the mixing, dosing, conveying, drying and stocking of plastic granulates. Use of our equipment and systems in more than 4.000 plastic processing companies around the world document the acceptance and high efficiency of these systems in everyday production work.
