As a business owner I provided consulting, testing and troubleshooting services to the bulk solids handling markets. I also acted as manufacturers representative for Bunting Magnetics, separation and material handling equipment in Western Canada between January 2003 and July 2003.

1995-2001

Project Manager and Engineering Manager, Bulkflow Technologies, Inc., Alberta, Canada

Managed engineers and designers; allocated resources, forecasted future resource requirements, hired, trained, and mentored employees, oversaw health and safety regulations, and prepared budgets. Project managed projects, to include design, scheduling, testing, R&D, and equipment cost control. Oversaw quality control of subcontractor;s fabrication shops.

As the Lab Manager I tested and characterized bulk materials in the lab and at customers facilities around the world. Industry standard test equipment was used, such as the Jenike Shear Cell, and I prepared lab reports with recommendations regarding the suitability of the client;s material for the Bulkflow Heat Exchanger.

Extensive design experience was gained with heat exchangers, feeders and mass flow hoppers.

1992-1995

Fuel Route Design Engineer, Scottish Nuclear, East Kilbride, Scotland

Acted as the responsible design engineer (RDE) for the Irradiated Fuel Dismantling Cell (IFD Cell) area of the nuclear power station, carrying out all design changes and modifications (mechanical, civil, and electrical). Led and mentored a team of design engineers and assigned work; reviewed and approved all modifications supplied by the group. Prepared safety case documents and reports to substantiate plant safety and reliability. Presented modifications and design proposals to the nuclear safety panel for final approval. Troubleshot and technically supported the plant during shutdowns and failures.

1981-1986

Marine Engineering Officer, Merchant Navy, Scotland

Navy Officer overseeing the engine room watch for eight hours daily, ensuring continued operation of all machinery and systems required to operate the ship (main engines, steam turbines, boilers, electrical generators, air compressors, pumps, oil purification plant, salination plant, and steam plant). I supervised and delegated work among junior engineers and crewmembers assigned to the watch.
