Fire protection procedure

Posted in: , on 2. Mar. 2005 - 06:23

I work at the coal-firing thermal power plant, 500§Ó*2 units, in Korea. Now, we are performing the commissioning operation.

I am in charge of coal transfer system consisting of about 6 kilometer-long belt conveyors, two stacker/reclaimers, and two continuous ship unloaders. (refer to the attachment drawing.)

We are about to send some coal to the boiler silo soon. As you know, we have to be careful of the fire prevention and protection.

Actually, we have some equipment for fire protection, as follows;

1. For galleries

water spray system with optical sensor linear detectors

2. For transfer towers

water spray system with heat detectors

3. For silo and dust collectors (bag filters)

carbon dioxide system with heat detectors

Now, we would like to make a procedure including cautions for operation and maintenance to prevent any fire occurrence. It will be the internal regulation for the fire protection.

Any advice on this would be highly appreciated.

As I explained in my previous note vigilance is the key to fire prevention regarding conveyor systems. Are you looking for specific information on how to contain and stop conveyor fires

that handle coal? If you are looking for this type of information you should either contact www.ANSUL.com or the local fire department in your district where this generating station is located as they are trained in all phases of fire control.

The Ansul Company has a fire fighting training school that is famous for its work and training all over the world and they train and graduate many fire fighters every year.

Please correct me If I am mistaken but are you totally unfamiliar with any form of fire fighting as it relates to conveyors?

I have gathered all my information relating to conveyors and fire prevention from working in an underground mine for 22 years and rebuilding and testing fire control machinery along with conveyors.
