Dear friends:

Our company needs a system to control dust generated during phosphate rock shipunloading. Major dust emission points are: (1) windblown dust at ship´s holds (2) clamshells discharge onto mobile hoppers (3) belt conveyor transfer points.

Please advise what companies could be interested in offering dust abatement technology for this aplication.

Thanks in advance,

Samllanos

The dust control system for ship unloading operation is very much affiliated with ship unloading system / mechanism.

I would suggest you to contact the manufacturers of the Ship Unloader who will be in the best position to offer the system or suggest the supplier of dust control systems, who will have the necessary experience for such specific cases.

Ishwar G Mulani.

I agree with Mr. Mulani. The first two areas of concern are probably best handled by them.

As far as the belt conveyor transfer points go, you could utilize small "insertable" pulse jet dust collectors for those areas of concern. They are available from various dust collector manufacturers.

Conveyor Dynamics, Inc. (CDI) offers dust control for belt conveyor transfer stations. See: www.conveyor-dynamics.com

Other forms of dust generation may also be controlled by the science/engineering solutions we offer.

Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulation modeling of granular flow with gas can produce the best available transfer chute geometry that can achieve twelve major benefits and control of:

1. Dust emissions

2. Belt wear

3. Belt puntures, tears,.....

4. Noise

5. Liner wear

6. Product degradation

7. Impact station idler life

8. Belt spillage

9. Chute pluggage

10. Belt tracking by load centering

11. Power saving

12. Increased belt capacity

Dust Control - Analysis And Equipment

Posted on 27. Jun. 2003 - 05:56

Dear Samllanos,

As it comes to dust control and material flow we have a great deal of experiance in a wide range of material and analysis. We do offer full Chute Analysis based on Discrete Element Methods (DEM) with a wide range of dust control systems. Visit our site at www.overlandconveyor.com or www.applieddem.com. We have been involved in minning and aggregate now for many years and have done numerous analysis on transfer points dealing with dust and dust minimazation and prevantion.

We can optimize the dust and material flow to reduce a number of problems which you might have.

Also if you would like to find out more and get a number of refrences we will be more than happy to provide you with them.

Re: Shipunloading Dust Control

Dear Samllanos,

The first two dust problem areas (windblown hold dust and clamshell transfer dust) can be eliminated by using a self-unloader ship to transport the phosphate. These ships use conveyors under the holds to empty the vessel. The boom conveyor on the spar deck is normally covered, or can be covered to contain dust to the receiving hopper. Dusting at that point can be contained by a simple curtain.

As far as the various conveyor transfer points are concerned, there are a number of straight forward dust containment solutions. Try contacting companies, such as Martin Engineering, for a suitable answer.

Hope this helps.

Dear Mr. Samllanos,

We are producer for dust collectors as WAm Spa Italy. And, have experienced similar aplication for various powders.

Could you please so kind as to supply us with necessary data such as ;

- capacity,

- size of material & granulation

- mobile hopper size & shape & other physical details

- belt conveyor dimensions and capacity

- way of agitating the material from ship

- the existing emission and target emission.

Then we shall work on to form a solution.

Thanks & Best Regards

With the numerous problems associated with ship unloading process, your most effective option would be to have the cargo receive a residual dust suppression application during or just prior to ship loading.

I have successuflly accomplished similar fugitive dust management results on coal loaded in US destined for Spain. Dust was controlled at both loading and unloading.

Dear Samllanos,

we are producer of a dust control system which (besides a lot of other applictions) is installed and in operation in Austria with phosphate. It is operating after a beltconveyor transfer point. The system is operating like an electronic filter, has very low power consumption, low maintenance and no wear.

Roncuzzi Industrial service have been installed more than 12 mobile dedusted hoppers from 3x3mt upt t o10x10mt wide, for coal, cement, klinker, caoilin, vegetable, flour, gips, slags etc.....

In all of them we have used WAM filters to clean the air from dust and particulate with excellent results.

Other solutions are linked to an accurate analysis of where and how, for each type of material used inside the hopper, will be generate the dust.

Ship/Barge Loading/Unloading - Dust Suppression

Posted on 16. Oct. 2013 - 01:29

DSH Systems dust suppression hoppers are now being installed for ship and barge loading of dry, granular, free-running materials - sometimes as a stand-alone installation and on other sites as an add-on to more traditional loading spouts.

The standard DSH System uses no utilities so installation is quick and easy and and it has no internal moving parts therefore product degradation is reduced. At the point of loading, or transferral, the DSH System concentrates the discharge of dry goods as a tight solid column through free air into any target repository. A small degree of natural agitation as the hopper is filled excludes air from the material being transferred.

Hi Judi,

Impressive as your spout appears to be, the original thread was started in relation to ship unloading, which seems unsuitable for your spout which describes ship loading.

Gary B might intercede and advise us both that the thread is decade-spent but here we are anyway. Good luck. Is there a technical note in the offing?
