Hot rolling does suggest a superior surface finish & roundness. What is your tolerance regime for roundness & surface finish.
Can the media be handled, seriously, by special conveying equipment? Forged balls will not roll far because of the sprue remnants & this makes mechanical handling a nightmare.
Most millers are constrained to replenish charge from kibbles which is a bit outlandish when everything else around the mill is designed for continuous operation.
If your media will roll I would be very pleased to learn more. ■

Many thanks for your reply. Our hot rolled balls do have superior surface including the precise dimension and perfectly roundness.
I have to point out that the casting balls have the sprue remaining on the balls but not the forged balls. The forged balls could not be easily conveyed because their inferior roundness too.
The total deformation for both forged balls and hot rolled balls is equal. But workers hammer the forged balls and just stop hammering once the piece looks like a sphere. The forged balls suffering several unbalanced local distortions.
To the contrary, our balls are once suffered the large pressure from the roller and this process could be called¡± single forming¡±. Every aspect of the balls is suffered the average pressure.
Besides, we have 3 special on-line heat-treat lines: quench and temper. Our balls are heat-treated one by one and earned average hardness.
Because of these 2 reasons, our balls are well appreciated by our clients.

While I was recovering (exceptionally favourably) from a recent heart bypass operation the ball feed to the mills was completely overloooked/ignored by the plant layout crew. Any examples of ball handling on sites that you know about would be appreciated. I am working on my own lines, of course, but it would be nice to see what else has been tried. It's a 2 way street! ■

These are the balls which are used in the ball mills for a long time. We picked it out of the mill and take a picture.

From the pictures, you will found our balls are permanent in shape from start until finish.
This is why we always tell you our balls are with uniform hardness and precious dimension. Only these two factors could guarantee the grinding efficiency of the balls. If the balls change thir forms, they would be easily weared out.

To try to explain....
From the mechanical plant designer's view the metallurgical properties are not important. We have to get them from the delivery point to the mill spout. They cannot be expected to roll all the way. Our problem, I speak for us all, is one of feeding the ball handling system and then regulating that feed.
Sometimes the ball roundness can be an advantage, to promote movement, while at other times it can be a hindrance, to prevent flooding overloads.
Please appreciate that if balls block a chute, for instance, because they were 'out of spec' it is of little defence to a designer.
If the balls are 'in spec' a designer can accept some rolling characteristic, promise feed availability and also make provisions to prevent flooding. Flooding...its more like an avalanche!
Your balls do seem manageable. What are your delivery logistics in terms of consignment size, packaging & corrosion inhibiting? ■

This is really a question. Normally our balls are packed in steel drums or woven bags. When we want to put the balls into the drums/ bags, we usually put the balls on the downspouting and roll the balls into the drums or bags. It is simple to hide the exit with a board to avoid avalanches.
The steel drums and woven bags could be easily transported.
