Screening Conveyor Pan and Lump Breaker Replacement

A ready to eat cereal manufacturer had been screening lumps, or overs, and fines with an obsolete vibratory screening conveyor that was no longer producing necessary line yields due to reoccurring failures. The pan had become worn out and unfortunately, the manufacturer no longer in business could not replace or correct the problem.

The plant had already installed vibratory conveyors and Slipstick horizontal motion conveyors in their plant provided by Triple/S Dynamics in years past. Now, Triple/S Dynamics was able to supply a complete new pan assembly including the new overs and fines screens. A complete new screening conveyor was too expensive and would not fit in the available space. The installation also included fiberglass

support springs to fit on the existing conveyor frame and drive. The replacement pan assembly saved the plant money and installation time. Installation was smooth with the help of a factory trained service technician. The cereal was then able to be screened properly by removing the overs and the fines before packaging.

The lump breaker was also redesigned to help increase the line yield. The lump breaker is used to break up clumps of good product. If the clumps are not broken up they would be rejected, which significantly reduces the line yields. The

existing lump breaker was too heavy and caused damage to the overs screen. The Triple/S Dynamics lump breaker is suspended above the screen surface to reduce impact forces on the screen while still effectively breaking up the

clumps of product. The lump breaker proved to be much more effective at breaking up the clumps than their old lump breaker and the result was increased line yields. Triple/S Dynamics’ lump breaker is also held in place with quick release

clamps so it can easily be removed for cleaning.

The conveyor and lump breaker were installed well within the scheduled plant shutdown window of four days. The reduced cost of replacing just the pan assembly allowed the project to be approved.
