PRIMASONICS INTERNATIONAL – RENTAL to PURCHASE

Ferro Corporation is the leading global supplier of technology-based performance materials for manufacturers. They have a number of separate Business Units such as Electronic Material Systems, Colour & Glass Performance Materials, Pharmaceuticals, Polymer Additives, Porcelain Enamel, Tile Coating Systems and Specialty Plastics.

In July 08, Lisa Wagoner, EHS Manager contacted Primasonics International to discuss problems the Cleveland plant were having with potassium nitrate building up on the side walls of their storage silos due to high humidity. The following month after examining both silo photographs and drawings, Primasonics recommended the installation of their Acoustic Cleaner Model PAS-230 to be mounted on top of the bin.

As Ferro Corporation did not have any previous experience of how effective acoustic cleaners would be in solving their problem, they were a little bit concerned if this new sonic technology would indeed be a success. They therefore opted for the Primasonics Rental Plan which allowed them to rent the horn on a monthly basis so as to fully evaluate its effectiveness. The acoustic cleaner was despatched from stock in October 08 and installed shortly afterwards.

The Primasonics Acoustic Cleaner proved to be a very effective solution and so in April the company proceeded to purchase the PAS-230 model and indeed will be considering other suitable applications for acoustic cleaners.

‘Very simply, the acoustic cleaner worked, and worked well. The guys love it. They no longer have to try to scrape the material off the walls. The acoustic cleaner eliminated an ergonomic and fall hazard for us. The idea of trialling it came from Humantech, an ergonomic solutions company after they assessed the task.’
