• Bin and feeder loads
• Blending
• Bulk solids compaction
• Caking
• Degradation
• Educating plant personnel
• Equipment wear
• Feeding bulk solids
• Feed rate control

• Ratholing
• Retrofitting bins and hoppers
• Roll and tablet pressing
• Segregation
• Solids / gas processing
• Solids / liquid processing

Diamondback Technology’s bins, hoppers, blenders, feeders and auxiliary equipment designs are based on sound engineering principles and proven field experience. We are the exclusive source of Dr. Jerry R. Johanson’s unique problem-solving designs collectively known as Diamondback Technology™.

DIAMONDBACK TECHNOLOGY TESTING SERVICES

Testing to determine the characteristics of bulk materials is a key element in equipment design or selection and unfortunately, there is no successful way to predict exactly how any one bulk solid will behave based on experience alone. The only effective way to predict and avoid processing problems is to measure a material’s flow properties at simulated plant conditions and use this data to design or recommend equipment. This means duplicating temperature, storage time, chemical reactions and solids contact pressures while taking into consideration a process or storage vessel’s construction materials.

We use the Johanson Indicizer® System for flow properties characterization and have tested thousands of different pharmaceuticals, food products and ingredients, ores, coals, wood products, biomass, chemicals and other materials.

Diamondback Technology’s lab technicians can duplicate conditions from sub-freezing to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, moisture content from dry to submerged in liquid, moisture pickup during conveying, and compaction pressures from a few psf to 30,000 psi.

Our engineers interpret the test results in a written report and provide handling recommendations and any applicable conceptual equipment designs for correcting or eliminating flow or processing problems. Test results are completely confidential.

DIAMONDBACK TECHNOLOGY PRODUCTS

Diamondback Hopper®

The patented Arch-breaking Diamondback Hopper prevents arching and ratholing with its one-dimensional convergence design. In many cases, the Diamondback eliminates the need for noisy vibrators, air cannons and rotary valves. Because it provides uniform mass-flow with no moving parts, the Diamondback Hopper virtually eliminates costly maintenance, while minimizing down time.

Standard pre-engineered Arch-breaking Diamondback Hoppers come in 22 sizes than can be welded or bolted together to create a single unit that will retrofit most existing equipment within available headroom. For most applications, a modular Standard Diamondback Hopper or hopper combination is all that’s required. For unique circumstances, however, or when the material flow properties warrant it, we can design custom Diamondback Hopper configurations and auxiliary equipment to maximize process performance.

We warrant all Diamondback Hoppers for a period of nine months or longer if we test a material’s flow properties. A conceptual sketch of the applicable Diamondback Hopper as it fits within an existing system is included as part of each test report.

Diamondback Tumble Blender

The Diamondback Tumble Blender uses the same award-winning technology featured in the Diamondback Hopper to optimize performance. The blender creates criss-cross flow action that eliminates dead regions, while providing excellent cross-flow. It achieves rapid bulk solids mixing and mixes many material combinations not suited for mechanically agitated blenders either because of demixing tendencies or particle size degradation. The Diamondback Tumble Blender comes in seven standard sizes.

Diamondback Densifying Screw Feeder

The Diamondback Technology densifying screw feeder retrofits existing bins to eliminate flooding, flushing and erratic flow while providing excellent anti-arching capabilities. The screw seals against flushing and densifies powders, removing unwanted air for sack or bag filling. It also provides a controlled uniform density for weigh hopper applications. The screw comes with a variable speed that accommodates both fast and dribble feed conditions. It also handles extremely cohesive bulk materials at consistent output densities.
