Rulli Rulmeca is the headquarters and mother company of the Rulmeca Group, specialising in the production of rollers/idlers, motorized pulleys, fabricated pulleys and other components for the worldwide bulk handling industry.
On December, 6th 2006 Rulli Rulmeca S.p.A. announced the acquisition of the leading South African roller manufacturer MELCO Conveyor Equipment, a well known brand in South Africa and on the international bulk handling market.
Rulmeca also acquired Melco’s interests in two Companies, the South African company Africa Roller (Pty) Ltd and the US Melco LLC USA in North Carolina.
This acquisition allows Rulmeca to enter new geographical markets (mainly Africa and Australia) and to integrate the Melco products such as the Supreme roller, a high density polyethylene roller suitable for corrosive and abrasive applications, into the Rulmeca Group companies.
Furthermore the Rulmeca existing products, such as the Motorized Pulleys, will become part of Melco range for the South African market.
In May 2007 the Group will commence local production of rollers inTianjin, China.

Rollers and stations (manufactured in all Group manufacturing Companies)
With more than 45 years´ experience in belt conveyor applications, Rulmeca has been constantly increasing its product range and developing solutions to meet virtually any application need. State-of-the-art techniques used in design and manufacturing ensure long life and outstanding performance even in the heaviest and most aggressive operating conditions. With our global presence the Rulmeca Group offers rollers to most worldwide standards such as UNI-DIN, ISO, AFNOR, CEMA and BS standards. Rulmeca products are used in countless different sectors, such as the mining, cement, steel works, glass, chemicals & fertiliser industries.
Rulmeca product lines include Precismeca rollers and garland sets, known worldwide for their reliability in some of the toughest conveying conditions.
Our manufacturing program includes:
- rollers for belt widths up to 3000 mm, in diameters 63, 76, 89, 102, 108, 114, 127, 133, 140, 152, 159, 168, 194 and 219 mm – spindle 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 90 mm;
- all types of troughing sets: upper carrying troughing sets, return sets, impact sets, self-aligning sets, suspended “ garlands ”.
Motorized pulleys (manufactured in Aschersleben, Germany and locally assembled and serviced)
RULMECA has expanded its business activities with an innovative product range of motorized pulleys. With the purchase of the Interroll ‘BULK’ Business Unit, RULMECA has drawn on the long history and extensive experience of the German manufacturer ‘FAA’ to become the largest & most knowledgeable producer of motorized pulleys in the world for bulk handling applications.
A successful tradition of intense development and production with 50 years experience has proven to deliver an enhanced range of standard and customized products to meet most bulk handling applications.
The Rulmeca motorized pulley was first produced in 1953 specifically for use on conveyor belt applications. The original aim was to produce a compact, hermetically sealed, highly efficient conveyor drive unit that would be unaffected by dust, water, oil, grease or other harmful substances. A motorized pulley that would be quick and simple to install and require virtually no maintenance.
These aims were achieved and today the Rulmeca Motorized Pulley is considered to be one of the most reliable, effective and safe conveyor drive systems available throughout the world.
Pulleys
RULMECA pulleys are used world wide in conveyor systems for bulk handling.
Pulleys are dimensioned according to the characteristics of each conveyor and may be designed to meet a great variety of construction methods.
Rulmeca designs and manufactures pulleys, using materials of the highest quality in a production process employing advanced technology.
RULMECA produces the following types:
- Drive pulleys
- Return pulleys
- Tail pulleys
- Tension pulleys
- Snub pulleys
Pulleys may be supplied rubber lagged in several executions: smooth, diamond pattern, herringbone pattern (anticlockwise or clock-wise) and in various ceramic finishes.
Other components: belt cleaners and covers (distributed globally)
In most belt conveyor projects, after having defined the components of primary importance, it is necessary to consider other accessories such as belt cleaners and belt covers.
Belt cleaners
The use of cleaning equipment has become an indispensable requirement to assure general plant efficiency and to reduce the periods of service needed for maintenance.
There has been a notable development in the use of this equipment in recent years for differing reasons: prolonging the life of the conveyor; limiting the belt wear, improving the overall efficiency of the installation, reducing loss of material thereby increasing the throughput, and eliminating a major cause of wear on the return rollers.
Covers
The necessity to cover belt conveyors may arise to protect from the weather, to insulate the volatile characteristics of the conveyed material, and also from legislation aimed at preventing spillage of conveyed materials and to keep harmful substances from affecting areas where people are working.
Rulmeca covers do not require maintenance and are very easy to transport and install.
Two styles of covers are available: in pre-formed PVC and in corrugated galvanised steel.
